A Bit Quirky...

8 Quirks of Mine You Might Misunderstand

We all have our quirks—those little things that make us unique but might also leave others scratching their heads. Here are eight of mine that you might misunderstand, but trust me, they all have a reason behind them.

1. My Love for the Irish Goodbye You might think I’m being rude when I slip out of a party or end a phone call without saying goodbye, but it’s really about preserving my energy. The Irish goodbye is my way of leaving without the fuss, avoiding the drawn-out farewells that can be exhausting when I’m already feeling socially drained.

2. My Obsession with Revisiting the 80s and 90s If you see me constantly re-watching old movies or listening to music from the 80s and 90s, you might wonder why I’m so stuck in the past. The truth is, these aren’t just memories—they’re touchstones that bring me back to a time of pure, unfiltered joy. It’s less about nostalgia and more about reconnecting with the essence of who I was and still am.

3. My Literal Interpretation of Language You might think I’m missing the joke or being overly serious when I take things literally, but it’s just how my brain works. I’m wired to understand words at face value, so sarcasm and idioms can sometimes go right over my head. It’s not that I don’t have a sense of humor—it just operates a little differently.

4. My Need for Detailed Plans If I seem overly concerned with sticking to a plan, it’s not because I’m a control freak. It’s because changing plans throws off the careful balance I’ve set to manage my energy and avoid overwhelm. Last-minute changes make it hard for me to adjust, and I end up feeling lost in a situation I can’t troubleshoot quickly.

5. My Disinterest in TikTok Trends and Viral Videos When I don’t engage with the latest social media trends, you might think I’m out of touch or uninterested in what’s current. The reality is, I value depth and meaningful connections over fleeting, surface-level content. I’m more interested in conversations that matter than in keeping up with what’s “in” at the moment.

6. My Blissful Ignorance of Mockery You might think I’m clueless when I don’t realize I’m being mocked, but I actually prefer it that way. By not picking up on subtle jabs, I shield myself from negativity and keep my focus on what really matters. My lack of awareness is less about being oblivious and more about choosing to stay in a positive mindset.

7. My Impatience with Pessimism If I seem frustrated with people who say something can’t be done, it’s not because I lack empathy. It’s because I believe in the power of trying and finding solutions. Pessimism feels like giving up before the game even starts, and that’s something I can’t get behind.

8. My Zero Tolerance for Lateness When I’m unyielding about punctuality, it’s not because I’m rigid or inflexible. It’s because I see time as a precious resource, especially when it comes to the good things in life. Being late for those moments feels like a disregard for their value, and that’s something I struggle to forgive.
